St Julian's and Paceville: four very different nights
They share a neighbourhood but not a crowd, so choose by what you feel like doing that night.
- TwentyTwo: on the 22nd floor of the Portomaso tower, air-conditioned and glass-walled, with the coast on every side. A strong pick if you like getting dressed up and want more polish than a pub crawl.
- Toy Room: on St George's Road, with visuals, shows and a teddy-bear mascot called Frank. In season each night has its own concept, from the Italian music of Dolce Vita to Glow Night's neon. Made for travellers and Erasmus students who want to meet people.
- Sky Club: big room and a full floor, with a French night on summer Mondays plus Italian nights. A solid choice for birthdays and large groups.
- Infinity by Hugo's: a rooftop with a pool on top of a hotel and two rooms, one for trap, reggaeton and R&B, the other for house, techno and commercial. Works well for groups with mixed music tastes.
Open-air: Gianpula Village and Aria Complex
Neither is walkable from Paceville, so getting there and back takes some planning. In return, no indoor room comes close for size.
- Gianpula Village: in Żebbuġ, the island's largest party venue, with a Main Room, Marrakech and a Rooftop with a pool, among other spaces. It also hosts concerts and festivals. Go for a mass-scale night or to see a particular artist.
- Aria Complex: in San Gwann, with a pool, two dancefloors and a giant LED screen. Its best-known night is the Saturday foam party in summer. Suits students, stag and hen groups and anyone happy to end up drenched.
By the sea: Toy Room Beach Club and Café del Mar
Both swap the dancefloor for a pool facing the water, but one works in broad daylight and the other with the setting sun.
- Toy Room Beach Club: along the Tigné waterfront in Sliema, with day beds, dance platforms and a pool. It's Toy Room by day, and the right call if you're better in the sun than at 3am.
- Café del Mar: open-air in St Paul's Bay (Qawra), with an infinity pool and the sun dropping behind St Paul's Islands. There's a Thursday pool party and electronic nights with international DJs. For fans of that sound and anyone who likes a night that begins in daylight.
How to choose with only two or three nights
Don't repeat a format: one Paceville club, one open-air venue and one seaside spot give you three genuinely different nights. If you'd rather not rely on taxis or buses, stay around St Julian's. If half the group wants reggaeton and the other half house, pick somewhere with several rooms, like Infinity or Gianpula.
After that, the calendar decides: not every venue opens every night and the programme changes from one season to the next, so confirm what's on for your dates.
